Traveling With Cat(s)

by Fawn on August 10, 2010

We went on an outing the other day, Rich and I, with our 15-month-old cat. Yes, cat. She’s been a traveler all along. Not by choice, necessarily, but to accommodate a lifestyle we’d established before—and existed when—she arrived, a two-week-old orphan we’d foster until she became adoptable. But sometime during her infancy we decided she was one of those kitties that only a foster family could love. So we kept her.

Lyra has made countless road trips, a majority of them lasting anywhere from 2½ to 6 hours—each way. She’s a pro. And even though my current occupation doesn’t require much traveling these days, we like to keep her practiced. Once a month or so we load Lyra up and drive to someplace woodsy where we can all get out and be one [some] with nature.

I’m constantly coming up with reasons why I can’t write during the blocks of time I set aside. Writing isn’t always fun; it can be frustrating and down-right scary. So, if we can claim to write without, well … writing, just imagine how much we can accomplish.

Want to know which non-writing activities count? The professor explained it this way [click to continue…]

Spring Cleaning: Body, Mind and Soul

by Fawn on March 27, 2010

Spring elicits images of tulips, Easter bunnies, newborn farm animals, and patio furniture. Each person’s response to spring is highly individualized, of course, and may not bare the mentioned results. ’Tis also the season to clean . . . thoroughly. As much as I fight domestic responsibility, I realize that scouring my dwelling is an important part of starting fresh. And I do love a surface that glistens in the morning sun—absent that fuzzy layer of dust. But why stop there? A thorough spring cleaning should encompass [click to continue…]

Five Ways to Reclaim Your Time

February 13, 2010

Are you the kind of person who spends your life chasing the clock, frantically trying to regain the minutes, hours, months, even years lost to who knows what? Do you feel as though the proverbial stopwatch starts when you roll out of bed and stops when you fall asleep–and not a millisecond before? Perhaps you [...]
